Jaunty plumes of glad July
Beckon to bees passing by-
“Hello! Hello! Come and see
What garden pleasures there may be.”
Crickets chirp an invitation –
“There is nectar here for your libation.
Colours there are to entice your eye,
Brilliant hues and perfumes to try.
Come once, come twice. Pause for a sip.
It’s worth your time to make the trip.”
Pansies curtsy as breezes play
And rare is the bee that stays away.

Brown-eyed Susans on the hill
Are nodding in the sun.
Waving daisies at the gate
Are stretching one by one.
Blue cornflowers by my door
Raise up their sleepy heads.
God is walking in his garden
Awaking all the beds.
Aren’t they lovely? My husband loves flowers and his garden shows it.
Brazen silk banners
Unfurling orange splendour
Herald bright summer.

As sweetest lilacs waft their incense round,
Graceful spirea dons her bridal gown.
Purple-vested irises hold heads high,
And cheerful pansies smile up at the sky.
While June presides, coy summer marries spring,
As with joyful voices, birds are carolling.
As the spring gets warmer more flowers are appearing.
Even as they are fading, the tulips are blazing beauties.

The hyacinths are blooming;
Their sweet perfume abounds.
New tulips are standing tall
Where crocus last was found.
Crimson cardinals are wooing
Feathered maidens in the trees,
And the promises of summer
Softly whisper in May’s breeze.
Spring is popping up in our garden now and the birds are singing all about it.
Before every holiday and every special day such as “Mother’s Day” our little church crafting group make some special crafts to deliver to the local nursing home. Here are some of the things we made for Easter this year:
In the photo above are some ribbon woven crosses, paper plate bunny faces, paper plate Easter Bonnets, tulip cups filled with chocolate eggs, and Easter cards.
We set aside three hours on a Saturday before the holiday to make the crafts and we supply our own materials – usually easily obtained from our local dollar store. It is a time of fun creativity for us and a labour of love. The crafts are well-received.
