1)
The ocean swells with the rising tide
And I cannot see the other side.
My craft is small and the water deep,
But I must cross it before I sleep.

refrain
How wonderful to trust my frail steps
To the One who made the ocean depths;
To the One who makes the wind obey,
My Jesus, who carries me all the way.

2)
As I sail over the bounding waves,
I trust my soul to the One who saves,
Mightier is He than any king,
God, the Maker of everything.

3)
I am never alone, have no fear,
For my Protector is always near.
He guides me through every storm
And shelters me from eternal harm.

Being Salt and Light

Salt and Light

Salt and light our Saviour calls us,
Salt and light so we must be,
Sharing hope and truth with others
With our love and empathy.

Salt and light our Saviour named us,
Pure and honest we must be,
oil-lamp-from-ancient-timesConsecrate our days to Jesus
So God’s kingdom we will see.

Salt and light we must be bearing,
Pain and hatred to confound.
It’s God’s love that we are sharing;
Spread it gently all around.

A Small Man Named Zaccheus

A small man was Zaccheus,
So small he couldn’t see,
Over all the throngs that came
To sit round Jesus’ knee.

Chorus
Climb down that tree, Zaccheus!
Climb down from that high view.
Lord Jesus Christ is coming;
The King of Kings loves you.

The Lord looked up and saw him,
The taxman in the tree,
And Jesus called to Zaccheus,
“Come down and eat with me.”

Chorus

Though others shunned Zaccheus
For all his cheating part.
Lord Jesus saw his suff’ring
And knew He’d change his heart.

Chorus

There’s no heart that can not change
Once Jesus is let in,
For Jesus knows our burdens
And cleans away our sin.

girl in prayer

When you test us, Lord,

We oft fail the test,

Although we know

Which way you have blessed.

*******

When we have trials

Our wills may be weak,

Although we know

Whose strength to seek.

*******

When we speak aloud

Our words may distress,

Although we know

To love is best.

*******

O Lord, change our hearts

And help us refrain

From causing hurt

And needless pain.

*******

Forgive us, Jesus,

When we do wrong.

Make us faithful,

Loving and strong.

Jesus-Good-Shepherd-03

I do what I shouldn’t do

And that makes God sad.

I go where I shouldn’t go

And, then, I feel bad.

I say what I shouldn’t say

And cause someone pain.

O God, why do I do this

Again and again?

******

Like a wind-blown weather vane

I twist east and west,

With no help to guide me choose

I try what seems best.

But, I still search night and day

And always in vain.

O God, why do I do this

Again and again?

********

No more will I wander far

From God’s helping hand

And struggle and flounder

In sin’s sinking sand.

I want God’s eternal promise

More than worldly gain

So I’ll follow Lord Jesus

Again and again.

1.

Without rain this world’s a desert;

Without sun this world is cold;

Without God this world is barren

And our hearts will turn to stone.

2.

Without hope this world’s desperate;

Without Love this world is cold;

Without God this world is chaos

And our souls will have no home.

3.

Turn your eyes towards the Saviour;

Turn your ears to hear God’s Word;

Use your hands to do His service

And God’s love will overflow.

4.

For in God we find our purpose;

For in Him we find our joy;

And in God our hearts will open

For the truth to set us free.

Hymn for a Troubled Heart

I wrote this hymn recently while I was ill, thinking of those who were and sadly, still are chronically or gravely ill.

6 5 6 4  Chorus 8 8 8 8

In the hours of pain, Lord,

I become aware

When it’s hard to breathe, Lord,

You are my air.

Chorus:

You are my blanket in the cold,

My warm embrace as I grow old.

In the deep darkness of  the night,

You are my joy; you are my light.

In the hours of fear, Lord,

I will be secure.

When it hurts to hope, Lord,

You are my cure.

In the hours of grief, Lord,

I know I am blessed.

When my heart is numb, Lord,

You are my rest.

Do you think this needs another verse?  Please give me your opinion.  I will greatly appreciate the help.

The Hymn I Wrote for Communion

05-holy-communionWriting hymns has become a great joy to me.  Music can convey so much.  I strive to write simple lyrics that anyone can understand and hopefully they will linger in the mind long after the music has ended.  Last Sunday when we had communion we sang this hymn that I wrote in 2008.  If you wish to use it, please contact me through this blog.

The Table of the Lord

Our food is here; the table spread,

We poured the wine and broke the bread.

This costly meal none can afford,

Provided freely by our Lord.

Come drink the wine and eat the bread.

Come hear the words our Master said.

“This is my body and my blood,

Now love each other as you should.”

“I spend my life-blood for your sake,

And though my body they will break,

My friends, I promise you will be

One day in paradise with me.”

Our food is here; the table spread.

We poured the wine and broke the bread,

This costly meal none can afford,

Provided freely by our Lord.
